To whom it may concern:

October 27, 2000 was Digital's first on-site service at the Aerolease/Aeroplex Group in Long Beach and Van Nuys, California.

Eight years and 311 service hours later, Aerolease/Aeroplex is completing a new multi-million dollar state-of-the-art building in the Van Nuys Airport.

The success of Aerolease is a result of excellent leadership, diligent team work, and  well supports from the vendors.

From Internet access, Email, Quickbook, to the recently installed paper-less office system,  Digital Computing System has provided effective supports, and is recognized as a value-added vendor.

Digital shall continue to contribute to the future success of the Aerolease/Aeroplex Group, and its tenants and clients.

OK, have a technician here from Digital Computing System making changes to one of the systems; when he gets that one fixed, he'll work on the other. He made more progress this past Monday than anyone has during the three months the systems have been sitting here!

John,

·         Make sure the key you are changing is NormalRollMaxFilmLength_mm and not LongRollMaxFilmLenght_mm. The LongRollMaxFilmLenght_mm is set to 3200.

·         If the ratio is 24x36mm, then your print will have to be set to 6.66 by 10 inches. Set the margins under IQ for Large as Left 0.916, Right 0.916, Top 0.5, and Bottom 0.5.

Thanks,

Bee Yang

Just a few remarks before I look into some of these registry changes later today:

·         Scanner Timeout when scanning strips: As noted in my email of Oct 08 one system is set for 3200 while the other was set for 1600; should both now be set to 1670?

·         The aspect ratio for a 35mm frame (24x36mm) is 2:3 the 7x10 or whatever size it winds up to be should be that ratio to avoid cropping. Note that the 4x6 does and the 5x7 nearly fits this criteria.

·         Lamp Warmup: I'm amazed (I find it hard to believe) that lamp variables (in two NEW systems) can vary so much that one unit has a 5 minute warmup and the other is 4 times longer; nearly 20 minutes.

·         Yes, I received the Plexwriter software; I've installed it on both systems and that allows me to create multiple folders on a CD which PSI cannot.

·         Nuisance items: Pakon might consider acting on those.  At least fix the help file so it doesn't refer to a feature that is not available!

Henry Lai and a new technician from Digital Computing System (the vendor) will be coming by today to address some of these issues. Don't know what they plan on doing but I'll show them your email. After a couple of weeks of useless tweaking they gave up long ago on these issues.

John,

CRITICAL:

*     Poor image quality when less than four frames are printed on an

8-1/2 x 11 index print.

First close PSI and IQueue II then open regedit up. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pakon\PSI F-235\IQueue II\LoResExport" and double click on "SaveOptions". Click on decimal and change the value to 2292. Exit regedit.

*     When scanning more than 6 strips, the scanner "times out" requiring

adding the one remaining strip to the original scan. The film ID must be

re-entered to prevent them being saved in a different folder from the

original scan. Can this be changed to allow 7 strips before timeout?

First close PSI and IQueue II then open regedit up. Go to ""HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pakon\PSI F-235\Scanner Settings" and double click on "NormalRollMaxFilmLength_mm". Click on decimal and change the value to 1670. Exit regedit.

*     "Contact" sheets still prints in black & white

I'm still working on this one.

*     Single prints - 8x10 still not printing the full frame. Change to

something that is proportional to 35mm frame as is the case with 4x6 or 5x7.

What is the ration proportion of the actual frame without cropping? I need the exact ratio and I'll adjust the margins for you. E.G. 7.25 x 10.11.

*

NUISANCE:

*     Logo/Information printed upside down across bottom of Index Print

*     Open files dialog window - lack of "select all" button.

This option will not be available with PSI

*     Selecting images to print or not print is wierd - see note above

about having to select all, etc to delete/skip.

*     Lack of feature (as described in PSI Help) to automatically add roll

ID as prefix to file name; ID has to be typed in each time.

This option will not be available with PSI

FOR WHAT ITS WORTH:

*     One computer has two case fans (front & back); the other only has

the rear fan.

We use two venders for our computer case. There is no advantage with two fans and our computer spec requires only one.

*     One computer has someones' Christmas photos on the "K:" Drive (25

JPG's dated 7/18/03 10:21AM).

During the testing stage, the technician probably scan some pictures in and store them on your K drive. I apologize for that and please delete those images.

*     One scanner takes 5 minutes to warm up; the other takes nearly 20

minutes.

      The warm up

The warm up period is dependent on how fast the light bulb can generate a certain light intensity. Have you tried a different light bulb?

*     CD burning software (Plextor Plexwriter) not included with systems;

finally received copy last week.

The plexwriter software should have been with your software package. I've already sent you a copy, let me know if you need another one.

Thanks,

Bee Yang

Subject: F235 update

With several "real" jobs in hand, used one of the systems to go through the

process of scanning, creating index prints, and burning a CD with the newly

installed EZ CD creator sent by Bee Yang at Pakon.

Scanning: Frequently we scan 36 exposure rolls of film that may be

cut into 7 strips instead of 6; sometimes thats the way it was cut,

sometimes the roll may actually contain 37 or 38 images. When scanning such

film, the scanner would stop scanning at the end of the 6th strip. The

seventh strip containing anywhere from 1 to 5 images would have to be

"added" to the original scan. When doing so, the roll ID must be re-entered

to scan the one strip. If this is not done, that strip will be saved to a

different folder (usually "0"); the first part of the roll is saved in the

folder named after the roll ID. On one occasion, I mis-typed the roll ID and

a new folder was created for that strip.

I tried scanning the seven strips with the system set to "continous"

instead of strips. The scanner timed-out well before all strips were

scanned, DX-code errors were encountered and "cropped" frames were

encountered.

One roll of film contained a very underexposed frame and the system

ignored that frame (it did not appear on the screen or on the index print.)

Its interesting though, a strip containing only one frame and the rest

completly blank appeared as one good frame and 5 blank frames with numbers!.

From a legal point of view, the missing frame could be problematic.

Saving Files: Because we create CD's containing multiple rolls from

a single case file, we are unable to burn a CD from within PSI (unless only

a single roll is involved.) If we scan a case file containing 10 rolls of

film, we will create a CD containing a folder for each roll of film; the

folder name being the roll ID. This is where we will use the Easy CD creator

software as we do on the older F12 system.

On the F12 system, the roll ID will automatically be added to the

beginning of each filename from that roll. Also, PSI help discusses that

option that may be enabled; I have  yet to find that feature in v1.4. It is

possible to enter, by hand, a prefix which could be the roll ID if desired.

This is simply having to re-enter existing information and could be another

opportunity for error. Automatically adding the roll ID to the filename

would greatly simplify this process.

Index Prints: Image quality remains a problem when a roll contains 4

or less frames (the frames autosize (enlarge) to fill the available space on

the 8-1/2 sheet) and noticeable image quality deterioriation is evident. The

"upside-down" logo and information make it confusing as to what is the top

of the sheet.

Recap/status as of today:

adding the one remaining strip to the original scan. The film ID must be
